The Good Old Summertime
“ In the Good Old Summertime “ is the title of a song, and a variety of movies. We have our summertime memories of days in the past, and are making them as our summer days unfold in the present. There are many things that go with and make up summer. Warmer to hot weather north of the equator. Longer daylight hours. Vacations for some. School is out, if you did your homework …..
JUNE BRINGS SUMMER. Copyright Catherine Gorski O’Connor 2024
The above and following illustrations are from my book Fantabulous, The Wonder-Filled Months of the Year.
June brings summer. There is baseball, hot dogs, peanuts and French fries. When I was a kid, I lived on my bike. It took me everywhere I wanted to go such as the park, to meet friends, the ice cream shop and to the public pools to go swimming. June is a perfect month to fly kites and watch them soar as high as possible in the sky.
JULY IS HOT. Copyright Catherine Gorski O’Connor 2024
July sure does get hot! Many people head to the beach for a swim in the ocean , to build sand castles and enjoy the sun. There is nothing like a nice cold and dripping ice cream cone on a hot day at the beach!
AUGUST IS HAZY AND LAZY A LOT. Copyright Catherine Gorski O’Connor 2024
August is hazy and lazy a lot as the weather tends to be more humid and stormy. It is a good time for picnics with watermelon, chips, cookies, lemonade and of course, ants. How wonderful to sit on a swing under a favorite tree and watch the clouds roll by or gaze at the boats with their sails catching the breeze. The buzzing of cicadas and the chirping of crickets fills the air-natures musicians.
JUST DANCE. Copyright Catherine Gorski O’Connor 2024
So dance!! Run!!! Skip!! Have Fun!! Watch the lightning bugs as they flash around in the evening. Smell the heat of the day and the cool of the night. Live it, breath it and remember it, for September and the next season will be following right along.
Have a Fantabulous and Wonder-Filled Summer. Catherine
